Exosomes:
Exosomes are tiny extracellular vesicles released by cells. In cosmetic treatments, products marketed as “exosomes” are typically applied topically after or during microneedling, with the idea that they may support skin repair and improve the cosmetic results.
People commonly seek this treatment for:
Immediately afterward, your skin may be red, warm, tight, or mildly swollen, somewhat like a sunburn. The skin generally settles over several days, while collagen remodeling takes longer.
This is where I’d be cautious. Microneedling itself has established evidence for several cosmetic concerns, but the evidence that adding exosomes provides a meaningful additional benefit is still developing. Products sold as “exosomes” can also vary considerably in their source, manufacturing, purity, and quality.
One particularly important distinction is whether the product is being applied topically or injected. Those are not equivalent procedures.
Ask the provider:
I would be especially cautious about clinics making claims that exosomes can “regenerate” skin, permanently reverse aging, or treat medical conditions.
