PDRN MICRONEEDLING

PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide) is a purified mixture of DNA fragments used in regenerative and aesthetic medicine. Its main purpose is to support tissue repair and improve skin quality, rather than simply adding volume or color.

🔬 How PDRN is thought to work

PDRN is primarily associated with activation of the adenosine A2A receptor pathway, which can influence:

  • Fibroblast activity → collagen production
  • Angiogenesis → blood-vessel formation and tissue repair
  • Wound-healing processes
  • Reduction of inflammatory signaling
  • Extracellular-matrix remodeling

In simple terms: PDRN helps create a more favorable environment for skin repair and regeneration.

PDRN vs PN

These terms are often confused in aesthetic clinics:

PDRN

  • Polydeoxyribonucleotide
  • Generally consists of shorter DNA fragments
  • Traditionally associated with tissue repair/wound healing
  • Often discussed in the context of regenerative medicine

PN (Polynucleotide)

  • Longer DNA polymer chains
  • Often used in aesthetic injectable treatments
  • Intended to improve skin hydration, elasticity and overall quality

They are related, but PDRN ≠ PN, and products shouldn’t be assumed to be interchangeable simply because both contain DNA-derived polymers.

PDRN + microneedling

With microneedling, the skin’s barrier is temporarily disrupted and controlled micro-injuries stimulate wound healing. A PDRN-containing product may then be applied to the skin.

The proposed combination is:

Microneedling → controlled injury → collagen remodeling
PDRN → repair/regenerative signaling

Potential aesthetic targets include:

  • Fine lines
  • Uneven texture
  • Acne scars
  • Post-procedure recovery
  • Dull or photoaged skin
  • Mild loss of elasticity

However, the evidence for PDRN specifically delivered through microneedling is less established than the evidence for microneedling itself. Much of the clinical literature on PDRN/PN involves other routes of administration
